Chris Judge
Illustrator Profile

Chris Judge is an illustrator and children's picture book maker based in Dublin, Ireland. He studied graphic design at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dublin and worked in web design before moving into illustration full time in 2005. His work is a mixture of illustration, painting and design, and has appeared in advertising, newspapers, magazines, exhibitions and several other media. In 2011 Chris’s first picture book, The Lonely Beast (Andersen Press), was published in Ireland, the UK, the US and across Europe and went on to win the Specsavers Irish Children's Book of the Year 2011 in the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards. It has since been followed by three Beast sequels (all Andersen Press) and the picture book Teeny and Tiny (Walker, 2019). His ability to interpret both comedy and real life has led to a collaboration with comedian David O'Doherty,  on the Danger is Everywhere series (Puffin) and illustrating Roddy Doyle's Brilliant  (Macmillan) and Ryan Tubridy's The First Christmas Jumper (Walker). The innovative Create Your Own Adventure series (Scholastic) written by his brother Andrew Judge engages readers in both drawing and creating themselves.

Chris says:"I absolutely love the crafting of my own picture books, generally limiting myself to 500 words and meticulously illustrating and designing each image. In tandem to this, I love nothing more than working with another authors’ texts for older children. To date I have enjoyed collaborating on almost 20 chapter books and I am always seeking a new challenge and the chance to bring new characters to life on the page."
